CHURCH GROUPS AND SOCIETIES

Little Angels  

For children from birth to school age with mums, grans, dads or carers - play games, listen to music and stories, use musical instruments and join in action rhymes. A time for the adults to  join in with the children and to chat and have a cup of tea. Summer picnic and sports, Christmas party.

Prayer Healing Fellowship

A group which comes together weekly to pray for those who are not well and to give thanks for God’s many blessings .

Meets at: St Paul’s on Mondays 3-4p.m. Contact: Sheila Sebborn on 023 8069 2674

 

Flower Guild

Responsible for flower arrangements in the churches each Sunday and at festival times. There is a flower festival at St Mary’s every few years. This group helps us to appreciate God’s creation.

Music Group

Usually meets twice in the month, learning all types of hymns  in a relaxed atmosphere! It participates in services at least once a month at St Mary’s and sings on special occasions.

St Paul’s Choir

Practises on alternate Thursday evenings. Sings at Sunday services each week at 9:30a.m. and some Sunday evenings at 6p.m.

St Mary's Bellringers

Meet for ringing twice a week with other events organised at various times during the year.

Meets at: St Mary's (10:15 - 11:00 on Sundays prior to the morning service, 19:30 - 21:00 on Thursdays for open practice).

Mother’s Union

For any one who is interested in the advancement of the Christian Religion in the sphere of family life.

Meets at: Various venues on the 2nd Wednesday in the month 2:30–4:00p.m. Contact: Joyce Burford on 023 8061 4069

 

The Man Friday Club

Meets at the Methodist Church on the first Friday in the month at 7:30p.m. has speakers and outings. Open to men of all denominations and non church members.

Art Group

Beginners group learning about all types of art and using a variety of materials. Fun and fundraising.

Meets: On various Thursdays as arranged. Contact: Elizabeth Bevan (via the Visitor's Book.)

 

Community Outreach Group (COG)

COG aims to promote the outreach of the church into the local community and beyond. The two main organisations we support are:

 

Christian Aid

Christian Aid works in almost 50 countries helping people regardless of religion or race to improve their own lives and tackle the causes of poverty and injustice.

 

The Children's Society

The Children's Society concentrates its resources on tackling the root causes of the problems that children and young people face.

 

COG also aims to promote stronger links with the local schools, support to those involved in a range of voluntary work, caring, and ‘simply’ being Christians in the workplace. We also want to promote the role of the church in caring for the environment, and would welcome input from anyone with an interesting this. We have also established a prayer diary so that all outreach is supported with prayer:

September: Healing ministry, Mac Milan Nurses (http://www.macmillan.org.uk/home.aspx) and St Luke’s Hospital (http://www.stlukeshospital.org.uk)

November: British Legion (http://www.britishlegion.org.uk) and the theme of Remembrance
